Technophobe on wikis

"Anyone (registered or unregistered, if unrestricted) can add, edit or delete content."

I'm going to sound like a broken record...but the above quote, from the CCLS 23Things #15, is exactly my problem with wikis...what are the credentials of the person editing the content? Gee, old school me, I'd like to know that the information is being edited by someone who might actually have some background on the particular topic.

When I visited the library wikis, I didn't really have a problem because the wikis were really nothing more than an electronic brochure of the services/capabilities offered by the library -- and it was written by library personnel who I would ASSUME
are in a position to have knowledge of those services. But, that WOULD be an assumption and therefore still, I would be more apt to believe the information if they WERE printed in a library brochure.
